Over-the-counter topical cream

Overview

´╗┐Topical analgesics can help ease muscular or arthritic pain. You rub these creams, ointments or gels directly onto a specific part of the body to relieve pain.

Several types of topical treatments, including Icy Hot and Bengay, are available at the grocery store or pharmacy. Your doctor may prescribe stronger topical treatments, such as Zostrix, Capzasin-P or Menthacin, for arthritis or more severe pain. Various topical pain relievers have different active ingredients, so ask your doctor which type of topical treatment may be best for you.
